U.S. Representative Don Beyer cosponsored H.R. 861 to continue funding the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through the end of the fiscal year. DHS coordinates efforts to prevent and respond to acts of terrorism on American soil.

“Now is not the time to play political brinkmanship with funding the Department of Homeland Security. From protecting our borders, ports, and air hubs, to coordinating efforts with local law enforcement, or helping communities through FEMA with emergency events, DHS plays a critical role in the safety of the American people,” said Rep. Beyer.

“Our national security should not be subjected to partisan bickering on Capitol Hill, which is why I was proud to cosponsor a clean DHS funding measure yesterday.”

Rep. Beyer cosponsored H.R. 861 yesterday to avert a DHS shutdown and provide long-term funding to the Department of Homeland Security without controversial anti-immigration riders that have been subject to political battles on Capitol Hill.
