Due to a lapse in government funding, the federal government shut down as of midnight on October 1, 2025. I firmly believe that government shutdowns are bad, and they are harmful. I continue to urge President Donald Trump and my Republican colleagues in Congress to govern responsibly and negotiate a deal that funds the government and keeps Americans from losing their health care. More than 72,000 of my constituents in Virginia’s Eighth Congressional District work directly for the government, and thousands more work as government contractors. Our community is home to many families who are now f... Read More »
In 2013, leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives and at the Internet Education Foundation sought to foster an appreciation for computer science and STEM. That year House leadership overwhelmingly passed H.Res. 77, Academic Competition Resolution of 2013, which outlined the plans for Representatives to host yearly district-by-district computer science (or “app”) competitions for middle school and high school students. Representative Don Beyer proudly hosts the 2025 Congressional App Challenge to showcase the talented STEM students in Virginia’s 8th Congressional District. If you are intere... Read More »

Dear Friend, Like many of you, I am outraged by President Trump and Elon Musk’s lies and attacks on the work, character, and patriotism of federal employees and contractors in order to justify their crusade against the very people who make our government run. This bile has been matched by actions that have targeted the civil service: Schedule F, a return to office mandate on an unrealistic timeline and without infrastructure designed to maximize attrition and chaos, unjustified terminations, placing blameless staff on administrative leave and creating a culture of fear and retaliation, the unp... I am deeply worried about the conflict in Gaza, as are so many of you. I have been vocal in urging a ceasefire to stop the bloodshed, which should see the end of hostilities, the release of all hostages, and the delivery of more humanitarian assistance for civilians who face dire conditions. I believe Prime Minister Netanyahu is wrong to oppose a two state solution, and to undermine efforts to establish lasting peace with dignity and security for Israelis and Palestinians alike, and I will keep saying so publicly. I am also urging the Israeli government to loosen its unacceptable obstruction o... Read More »
On October 7th, Hamas launched a series of horrifying terrorist attacks against Israeli communities, resulting in a huge number of civilian deaths. Israel responded to these attacks by vowing to destroy Hamas. The ensuing bombardment has seen enormous and tragic civilian losses in Gaza. I am profoundly concerned about the escalating conflict, which has now entered its fourth week and claimed the lives of thousands of innocents, many of them children. I urge all American citizens in the region to review guidance I shared from the State Department for their assistance. President Biden recently r... Read More »
I stand with the people of Israel and condemn Hamas' attack which has claimed hundreds of lives, with many more wounded or taken hostage. The United States fully supports our Israeli friends in the face of this senseless violence, and we utterly reject these despicable terrorist acts. I will work with my colleagues in Congress to respond to this attack, and to provide the support Israel needs to defend itself from terror. I support the Administration's push for a pause in military operations to get humanitarian assistance into Gaza and help civilians find safety. More must be done to help inno... Read More »
