I launched a series of events, called “Rising to the Challenge,” to address the serious issues facing my constituents and support them as they navigate Elon Musk and Donald Trump's illegal and politically motivated purge of the federal workforce. As the first in this series of events, I hosted a federal worker and contractor resource fair with our local government jurisdictions that featured unemployment assistance, financial and career planning advice, legal and policy discussions, food assistance and mental health resources, and more. The next event in this series was a Job Fair for Federal Workers and Contractors to help our neighbors navigate the uncertainty of a career transition and connect directly with hiring companies. I also hosted a constituent services event providing financial guidance for federal workers and contractors with Falls Church Mayor Letty Hardi & wellfed.
The latest event in this series is a Resource Fair for Federal Workers, Contractors, and Economically Impacted Individuals on Saturday, March 21 at 10:00am at Wakefield High School, which I am hosting in partnership with the City of Alexandria, the City of Falls Church, Arlington County and Fairfax County. As many of our Northern Virginia neighbors navigate economic uncertainty, this resource fair will allow individuals to connect directly with trusted local partners who can help them access the support they need – from housing assistance and food banks to workforce and small business resources.
Northern Virginia is home to thousands of dedicated public servants, contractors, and working families whose livelihoods have been disrupted by the Trump Administration’s reckless and harmful policy decisions. No one should have to navigate these challenges alone and as a community, we are committed to showing up for one another.
