Community support letters should reference the project title, should not include a funding amount or the recipient to receive the funds, and should describe why the project has community support.*

Explanation of the request must include purpose and why it is a valuable use of taxpayer funds.

Please provide one paragraph including the purpose of the project and describing the project. This description should include overall objectives and how the funds will achieve those goals and a detailed budget breakdown for how the funding is expected to be spent (e.g. what types of items or services the funds will buy or how research dollars will be spent.)

Then please provide another paragraph describing why it is a valuable use of taxpayer funds. Please be sure to explain what problem the project is trying to solve. For example, if addressing affordable housing – it would be helpful to describe the state of unaffordable housing in that jurisdiction (ie the problem) and therefore why the project is needed.

Please also look closely at the subcommittee guidance. Funds should align with what is an eligible expenditure for that account, and the explanation of the request should match the federal nexus. Look to the committee guidance for the statute identified with the federal nexus and align this description with the eligible uses identified in the statute.
