Ahead of midterms, Congressman Don Beyer hosts 4th annual Women's Conference

Saturday in Arlington, Congressman Don Beyer held his fourth annual Women's Conference; a tradition his predecessor, Jim Moran, started and hosted for 24 years.

11-year-old activist Naomi Walder was awarded the Clara Mortenson Beyer Award, in honor of Beyer's grandmother, an early suffragist.

Walder is famous for leading the March For Our Lives last spring, and for organizing a walk out at her elementary school against gun violence. After receiving the award, Walder forgave Beyer for failing to RSVP to her walk out, after she "begged him" to come.

The conference was a rallying cry for Democrats ahead of the midterms. "Democracies demand balance," said Beyer, "Right now, the Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the White House, and the Supreme Court. I think it will be very important to have a House that balances all that."

Almost half of Democrats running for House seats this fall are women.
