Beyer Statement On USMCA
Washington,
May 30, 2019
Rep. Don Beyer (D-VA), who serves on the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Trade, issued the following statement following reports that the Administration sent a draft statement of administrative action on the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement to Congress: “The Trump Administration’s sudden decision to blindside Congress by forcing action before anyone is ready upends a collaborative process on USMCA. This counterproductive action runs against the commitments made to Speaker Pelosi and our Committee. “That we learned of this news from media reports just as the President reportedly threatened Mexico with new tariffs over his draconian immigration demands shows that he is not serious about this process. The obvious conclusion is that President Trump does not really want to pass a new NAFTA.” |
