Beyer Coastal Resilience Bills to Help Alexandria Flooding Get Natural Resources Hearing

Rep. Don Beyer (D-VA) returned via committee waiver to make a guest appearance today at a hearing of the House Committee on Natural Resources, on which he served from 2015-2019, as it considered an ocean climate legislation package which included two of Beyer’s bipartisan coastal resilience bills. The bills, the National Oceans and Coastal Security Improvements Act and the Strengthening Coastal Communities Act, were both introduced in partnership with Rep. Francis Rooney (R-FL).

“Today’s hearing shows that the Natural Resources Committee continues to lead in addressing climate change,” said Rep. Beyer. “Ocean climate action is a vital but often overlooked piece of the larger response to the climate crisis, and the bills I and others have offered to address it represent achievable progress in this key area. The legislation we considered today would be important to helping coastal and inland communities like Alexandria prepare for and respond to the worsening impacts of climate change, and I thank Chairman Grijalva and my colleagues on Natural Resources for continuing to move the ball forward here.”
