Safe Climate Caucus Co-Chairs’ Statement on NOAA 2021 Climate Report

Safe Climate Caucus Co-Chairs Rep. Don Beyer (D-VA) and Rep. Alan Lowenthal (D-CA) today issued the following statement regarding the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s report that 2021 was the United States’ fourth warmest year on record, with 20 climate disasters that killed at least 688 people and cost an estimated $145 billion.

They wrote:

“NOAA’s newly released data confirms what we have known for a long time: the deadly effects of climate change are upon us, and will only continue to worsen. Unfortunately, U.S. emissions are returning to pre-pandemic levels, which makes it all the more important that our country take swift, decisive action. The Build Back Better Act is the commitment we need to reduce carbon emissions, invest in clean energy, and support climate infrastructure. The Senate must pass this legislation now.”
