Beyer Statement on COP27 Agreement
Washington,
November 23, 2022
Rep. Don Beyer (D-VA), co-chair of the Safe Climate Caucus, today issued the following statement on the COP27 United Nations Climate Change Conference: “I’m glad to see progress on fighting climate change at COP27. The creation of a climate fund to help developing nations bear the costs caused by the climate crisis is long-sought progress,” said Rep. Beyer. “At the same time, we hoped for more concrete commitments on fighting emissions, and those hopes unfortunately were frustrated in Egypt. The lack of advancement on this front following the success at Glasgow remains a major challenge for the world community in years to come. I applaud the Biden-Harris Administration and Climate Envoy John Kerry for their leadership on climate, and will continue to press with my colleagues for sustained action to fight climate change.” Beyer attended the COP26 Conference in Glasgow as part of a Congressional Delegation led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi in November, 2021. |
