Safe Climate Caucus co-chairs Reps. Alan Lowenthal (CA-47) and Don Beyer (VA-08) released the following statement today after the Trump administration announced its replacement for the Clean Power Plan:

“After decades of progress, the United States’ air quality has slipped for the first time in decades under President Trump. One day after this report, the Administration announced its plan to rollback clean air standards that safeguard public health and help us act on the climate crisis.

“This Administration will go to any length to bow to corporate polluters and the fossil fuel industry, even if it means sacrificing the health and well-being of the public. We are witnessing the direct effects of Trump’s anti-climate agenda in real time, and it will only get worse as the White House continues its assault on clean energy, air, and water.

“Americans want their government to act on climate. The Dirty Power Scam is another in a countless list of dangerous and reckless steps the Trump administration has taken to put polluters’ profits first ahead of the interests of the American people. We must continue to fight to stay in the Paris Climate Agreement, protect clean air, water and public health, and take bold action to address this generational crisis.”
