Northern Virginia Representatives’ Statement On Silver Line Expansion

U.S. Representatives Don Beyer (D-VA), Gerry Connolly (D-VA), and Jennifer Wexton (D-VA), who represent Northern Virginia in the U.S. House, today issued the following statement on the announcement from Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) that the Silver Line expansion project is now ready for final operational readiness testing:

“Today’s announcement brings the National Capital Region a big step closer to new rail service which will connect existing Metro stations with Dulles Airport and Loudoun County. There is still important work to do before the Silver Line Expansion can be opened for passenger service, including readiness testing and workforce training, but today we are closer than ever to a long-awaited opening of a fully operational Silver Line Expansion. We are encouraged by this news, and will continue to seek safe, reliable Metro service that benefits as many of our constituents as possible.”

WMATA announced earlier today that Metro had taken control of the Silver Line Extension and would now assume provisional care and control of the Extension, including six new Silver Line stations, 11.4 miles of new track, and a new rail yard.
