Beyer Statement On House Solar CRA Vote
Washington,
April 28, 2023
Rep. Don Beyer (D-VA), who serves on the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Trade, issued the following statement today on the House vote on H.J.Res. 39 – Disapproving the rule submitted by the Department of Commerce relating to "Procedures Covering Suspension of Liquidation, Duties and Estimated Duties in Accord With Presidential Proclamation 10414," which was adopted on a surprisingly close vote amid robust, bipartisan opposition: “Simply put, this legislation would cost jobs, increase energy prices, and set us back in the fight against climate change if enacted. Thankfully, the House today established that this will not happen, as the vote clearly demonstrated there is nowhere near the support required for this measure to ultimately become law. “While you never want to lose a vote, the amount of strong, bipartisan opposition to this bill was surprising to me even after I spent the last two weeks canvassing colleagues and urging them to vote no. This vote signals the ultimate defeat of the measure, which is a major victory for solar energy development and the American clean energy sector.” Beyer spoke in opposition to the legislation during debate on the House floor. The White House previously stated that the President would veto the bill if it passes, and today’s vote showed that the bill’s supporters are nearly 70 votes short of the number needed to override a presidential veto. Rep. Don Beyer serves on the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Trade. He is Vice Chair of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition, and co-chairs the Safe Climate Caucus. |
