SEEC Condemns Trump’s Illegal Freeze on Critical Federal Funds
Washington,
February 5, 2025
The leaders of the House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC), including Co-Chairs Reps. Doris Matsui, Mike Quigley, and Paul Tonko and Vice Chairs Reps. Don Beyer, Suzanne Bonamici, Sean Casten, Mike Levin, and Chellie Pingree, released a letter that highlights the real stories Americans have been sharing as a result of the Trump Administration’s recent illegal freeze on federal funds, which has sown chaos and confusion in communities across the nation. “As elected members of Congress, we are tasked with the responsible stewardship of taxpayer money to support programs that spur economic growth, advance public health, and protect the health and safety of our children’s future. In the past week, we and our members have received an onslaught of outreach from constituents regarding your Administration's multi-agency effort to illegally withhold tax-payer funds and rob our communities of promised federal investments,” the letter stated. “While federal courts have stepped in to halt one of your impoundment orders, we remain concerned with non-compliance with that court order, and continued direction of other illegal impoundment efforts on the basis of other executive orders. We urge you to immediately comply with federal law and court orders enforcing it, and immediately implement the funding that Congress has already appropriated. The chaos and confusion that you have sown into our communities, by stealing funds from the American people, must stop immediately.” Background The letter highlighted the real stories Americans across the nation have been sharing as a result of the Trump Administration’s federal funding freeze, particularly highlighting federal programs designed to deliver cost-savings to American families and businesses, a healthy future for our children, and critical financial assistance to disaster-impacted communities.
