Rep. Don Beyer visited a detention facility in Anne Arundel County in Maryland on Tuesday where Immigration and Customs Enforcement are detaining immigrants who have entered the country illegally, some of which have been separated from their children at the border. Beyer (D-Va.) met with two men from Honduras, Carlos and Mario, whose last names he is withholding to protect their identities. Both men were separated from their children, ages 7 and 5 respectively, at the border. It took months before they could speak to them or found out where they were, according to Beyer. The children are now in foster care. Beyer added, "You could tell the intense grief that both had that they were not with their children." The congressman posted a video on his Twitter page of his reaction to the stories of the fathers. He is asking the Trump administration to end the family separations that have been happening since the administration's zero-tolerance policy went into effect. |
